8 Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. 9 For this, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:8-10 – NASB)
Love is the fulfillment of the law. Why is that? What is the relationship between love and law? I think love (I am talking about genuine love, not abusive or excessive love) is a powerful tool to guard our hearts. It helps us to stay away from any wrong doings. If we have love, we will not commit adultery. If we have love, we will not murder. If we have love, we will not steal. If we have love, we will not covet. If we have love, we will not speed. If we have love, we will not do anything that would hurt ourselves or others (physically and emotionally). If we all have love, we do not really need laws, because we would have no intention to break them in the first place. Love, indeed, is the fulfillment of the law.
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 3:10)
