11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. (Colossians 1:11-14 – New Living Translation)
Living in the kingdom of darkness supposed to be painful. That is why Jesus paid a high cost to rescue us and set us free. However, sometimes we still choose to live in the darkness because we do enjoy it. We have some kind of understanding about what pleases God and what doesn’t. But, we still choose to do things that would not please God. We all sin and continue to sin … many times. We enjoy sinning somehow. We may struggle before taking the action to sin. But we lose at the end. After a full day of work, we feel tired. When we get home, we would rather be a couch potato than a godly Christian reflecting on God’s work for the day. At the weekends, we enjoy spending time with family and friends because we do not have the privilege to do so during the week. We rarely think about spending some quiet time with God at the weekends. We procrastinate. We tell God, “I’ll spend time with you later as I’m busy right now”. We have to have more interaction with the light, otherwise we would not be able to experience the greatness of being in the light. The existence of darkness is to allow us to realize the preciousness of light.
“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”
