18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. 19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. 21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. 23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it. (Colossians 1:18-23 – New Living Translation)
God has reconciled everything to Himself. He has already made peace with you and has brought you into his presence. We must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it because we are so easily drifted away by our sinful nature. A lot of time, we want to do what is right, but we can’t. We want to do good, but we don’t. We want to obey God, but we feel so weak to say “no” to our worldly desires. We don’t want to do what is wrong, but we do it anyway. We disappoint God and we disappoint ourselves. We are guilty. We feel helpless. Who will free us from this life that is dominated by sin? We need to be reminded that God has already freed us from this life. He has already brought us into his presence and empowered us to be able to say “no” to sin. We are equipped to fight against the darkness. We are meant to win the spiritual battle, not to lose it, as Jesus Christ has already conquered the darkness. We need to find the crack to destroy our enemies. Victory is on our side. Let’s claim it!
