8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!” 15 Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself. There is so much dissatisfaction in life. Our need is so great and we never have enough. We feel limited with lack of resources. Jesus’ disciple, Andrew, felt the same. There were so many people need to be fed and there were only five loaves and two fish. It was not enough. In reality, it is hard to be content. We always want more and more. We are expecting God to meet our needs by giving us more. God, if you are here to help, give me more money, give me a better job, give me a better boss, give me more courage to love, give me greater strength to face the challenges … God does not work in our ways. A lot of time , He magnifies our needs and reduces our resources. So, we can see the impossible with human strength and see the need to rely on Him. Regardless of how little our resources, God will use them. He will use them at the greatest extent. God used the five loaves and two fish from a boy. We may have only half a fish, but God will still use it if we are willing to hand it to God. Instead of asking for more, we need to learn to count what we have and put them in God’s hands. God can use our limited resources to resolve any challenges. And we can experience how great our God is.
