9-11So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God. (1 Philippians 1:9-11 – The Message)
It is true that we have to use our hearts to love, where we put ourselves in someone’ shoes and feel how others feel. However, we should also use our head. We should not love blindly and being ignorant. We should love with a purpose. We love to make Jesus Christ attractive to all. Love does not only involve care and support, but confrontation and discipline. When we use our head, we would be able to discern when to care, when to confront and when to discipline. So, our love will not spoil an individual, but lead him / her to growth and be more mature in Christ. Using our head to love can be challenging, especially when we are dealing with someone who is so dear to us. For the benefits of all, let’s learn to love appropriately together.
