1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. (Colossians 3:1-4 – New Living Translation)
It is hard to think about the things of heaven and not the things of earth because things of earth are the reality and things of heaven are the fantasy. At the end of the day, there are bills need to be paid, kids need to be fed, and chores need to be done. This is our reality. We understand that saving the lost souls has greater values than making a living. But we cannot stop thinking about ways to improve our lives. We want to have a better life 10 years from now and we are working towards it. Even if we are not aiming for a better life, we want to maintain what we have. We want to maintain certain standard of living. It is hard to give up our cell phones, computers, cars, houses… It is hard to go back to the life without cell phones and internet. The society is pushing us to live certain ways of life. Changes in our society keep reminding us about things of earth. Things of heaven are never a reality to us, although we truly want them to be the reality. Unless we can mentally detach from our society’s “standards”, things of earth would remain the reality.
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.”
