29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.” (John 1:29-34 – English Standard Version)

It may be the first time that John saw Jesus when he baptized Jesus. He himself does not know Jesus in person. But he has a strong belief that God has called him to be the witness of Jesus who is the Lamb of God. When God calls us to serve, we may not have a clear picture of the mission. We may not know whom we are going to serve and what we are going to do. When we have uncertainties, we tend to ask questions. I believe the first thing that we need to learn in accepting God’s calling is obedience. God may give us very little information, but we are willing to follow God’s instructions based on the little information. We do not need to be fully informed to take action. Following God is like playing adventure game. There are many hints throughout the games which help us to problem solve and accomplish our mission. Hints will only be revealed at certain time when we have taken certain actions. Sometimes we may have missed certain actions and need to go back and have the task completed. Following God requires taking a few actions at a time. When we are moving forward, He will reveal more to us and provide hints for us to continue moving forward. We need to be patience. God will reveal things to us at the right moment. Just keep moving!
