11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. (Colossians 2:11-15 – New Living Translation)

In the Old Testament, circumcision reminded the Israelites about the covenant that God had made with them. It reminded them about God’s salvation. Today, we no longer need circumcision as a reminder of God’s salvation. God’s salvation is remembered through the Christ on the cross. Jesus Christ has saved us from spiritual death, where our sins are forgiven. He shamed Satan publicly by taking our sins away and nailing them to the cross. The death of Jesus Christ is a victory over the dark force. However, if we continue to live in the darkness, we shame God publicly by Satan’s victory over us. We are allowing Satan to keep recording charges against us. We have to trust the mighty power of God, the power which has raised us to live a new life. A new life that empower us to say no to the darkness and live in the light with God.
